Princeton Tennis Classic still going strong

June 18, 2009 08:39 PM

The 26th Annual Princeton Tennis Classic was moved indoors Thursday, and it turned out so well that no one seemed to notice the rain. Gwen Guidice, executive director of the Princeton Tennis Program, said this is the first time in her 14 years that the whole day of doubles was forced inside. The irony of it was that they were able to move to their own club. PTP bought the Princeton Indoor Tennis Center in December.

“We never would have been able to set this up if we didn’t own it,” said Guidice. “And we had one of the largest turnouts ever with 65 teams.”

Players included some of the strongest in the area, which made for a very competitive fundraiser. In the popular pro division, Jim Cryan won for the fourth year in a row, three of them with this year’s partner, Bill Mountford. Their win in the finals was against Marc Vecchiolla and Jody DeMent, who came through a strong field in their division.

Winners and runners up of each division follow:

Mixed A: Will Daly and Dijana Stanic; Kaptan Karsolia/Sally Kuppek.

Mixed B: Chris DiMedio/Lauren Forlenza; Donna Nagel/Mark Nagel.

Women’s A: Dijana Stanic/Sally Kuppek; Jill Pancha/Tina Preville.

Women’s B: Dina Luther/Lea Ann Brady; Marty Stockton/Maggie Peters.

Men’s A: Raj Kaikiai/Alan Rosenberg; Ken Trock/Tony Dolhon.

Men’s B: Dan Higgins/Jonathan Meer; David Whiting/Al Sinesky.

Pro: Jim Cryan/Bill Mountford; Marc Vecchiolla/Jody DeMent.
